Why clean an engine bay?
A clean engine bay makes a used car far more convincing to buyers and makes it much easier to spot a new oil or coolant leak. Leaves and debris in the scuttle panel and drains below the windscreen can also block water run-off, so clearing them is worth doing on its own.
It's cosmetic, not mechanical — we clean and dress the surfaces you can see and reach, we don't service or repair anything.
How we clean under the bonnet safely
Modern engine bays are full of connectors, sensors and fuse boxes, so the approach is controlled. We work on a cool engine and never blast the bay with high pressure.
- Engine allowed to cool; loose leaves and debris removed first
- Alternator, air intake, fuse box and exposed connectors covered
- Degreaser applied and agitated with detailing brushes
- Low-pressure rinse or wipe-down, depending on the bay
- Plastics and rubbers dried and dressed with a non-greasy finish
When an engine bay clean makes sense
It's most popular before selling a car, after buying a used one, or as part of a full deep clean when every other part of the car is being brought back to its best.
If the engine is visibly leaking oil, get the leak repaired first — cleaning will make the source easier to find, but it won't fix it.
